Former Dennis Rodman teammate roasts Andre Drummond for GOAT rebounder claims: "Do you listen to yourself kid?"
During his media day availability, Andre Drummond made a bold claim regarding his rebounding skills. As his comment made its rounds online, one former NBA player couldn't help but clap back at him.
Drummond said that he is the best rebounder in league history. Among those appalled by this remark was Ron Harper. He commented on NBACentral's X post and said that Drummond can't be serious.
Harper spent 15 years in the NBA and won five championships during his time with the Chicago Bulls and LA Lakers. He also had the opportunity to play alongside someone who many consider the best rebounder ever — Hall of Fame forward Dennis Rodman.
As for Andre Drummond, he is gearing up for his second stint with the Philadelphia 76ers. The former All-Star will continue to play in a reserve role behind Joel Embiid. Drummond was also his backup in the 2021-22 season before being dealt to the Brooklyn Nets as part of the Ben Simmons-James Harden trade.
Entering his 13th campaign, Drummond is still one of the most productive rebounders in the game. Last season with the Chicago Bulls, he averaged nine boards in only 17.1 minutes per game. His presence will provide a much-needed boost for the Sixers, as rebounding has been one of their weak points.
Where does Andre Drummond stand in terms of all-time great rebounders?
Claiming that he is the greatest rebounder ever was a bit of a stretch for Andre Drummond. However, he belongs in the conversation.
Drummond has led the league in rebounds on four separate occasions and he had an eight-year run where he averaged over double-digit rebounds per game. During his peak, the veteran center was grabbing 15-16 rebounds a night for the Detroit Pistons.
On terms of a per-minute basis, Andre Drummond is one of the NBA's greatest rebounders. For his career, he is averaging 0.45 rebounds per minute. That is good for third all-time, trailing only Wilt Chamberlain (0.5) and Bill Russell (0.53).
Looking at the all-time rankings, Drummond still has a ways to go to back up his claim. With 10,671 total rebounds, he sits at 36th all-time. However, he is second among active players. The only player with more career rebounds than him is LeBron James with 11,185.
The all-time rankings back up Ron Harper's response to Drummond's statement. Dennis Rodman sits at 24th all-time with just under 12,000 rebounds.
There's no denying Drummond is one of the best rebounders of his generation and it's a big reason why he continues to find himself on an NBA roster. His all-time case is strong but some other legends have him narrowly beaten.
