Former Mavericks GM reveals one current employee has been buying Bitcoin for 5 years

Former director of quantitative research and development for the Dallas Mavericks, Haralabos Voulgaris, revealed that one of the Mavericks' employees has been investing in Bitcoin regularly for the past five years. Voulgaris shared the info while indulging in an online back-and-forth on X, formerly Twitter, about investing in the cryptocurrency.

"A few of the Mavs staff members also set a daily buy in around 2019 and I know one of them still has it running," Voulgaris tweeted on Saturday.

Haralabos Voulgaris is a former professional gambler the Dallas Mavericks hired in 2018. They parted ways in 2021 after the organization did not renew his contract. Voulgari had previously shared that he had requested to be released from his contract beforehand, but his request was refused.

"I haven't commented since the season ended. Just for clarification I asked to be let out of my contract, was denied. Since then I've been waiting for my contract to expire," Voulgaris tweeted previously.

During his time with the Mavs, Voulgaris reportedly began influencing front-office decisions, which caused some uneasiness within the organization.

According to The Athletic, there was tension between Voulgaris and the Mavs' former general manager Donnie Nelson. Nelson was a part of the Mavericks for 24 years before Voulgaris reportedly usurped his power, leading to Nelson parting ways in 2021.

Haralabos Voulgaris was an early advocate for Bitcoin

The former Dallas Mavericks executive got in early to buy Bitcoin, and as the cryptocurrency hit $100,000 earlier this month, Haralabos Voulgaris shared that he was an early advocate for the same.

During the back-and-forth on X, Voulgaris shared a snap of a mail he sent to his friends explaining how to acquire BTC in 2013 when it was valued at under $100.

"Here is an email I was sending to friends explaining how to buy and secure BTC back in 2013 - back then the best way to do it was via paper wallets - this Idea that BTC is just this chain that never changes from a tech standpoint and therefore will be susceptible to Quantum attacks in 2-5 years is wrong footed imo," Voulgaris tweeted.

He also shared that he had advised many others to buy and hold BTC, which has turned out to be some golden advice.

"Another relatable tidbit - I used to pay people 10 to 15 cents a clip to chart NBA Fouls through a custom interface, one of our best charters asked me for my advice on BTC and i told him to take part of his pay in it and hold it till for another 10+ years (he was in his 20s). He's still holding," Voulgaris tweeted.

Currently, Haralabos Voulgaris is the owner and president of a Spanish soccer club, CD Castellón.
