Former NBA champion speculates LeBron James' rumored Warriors trade could've mirrored Shaq’s 2010 impact on Celtics
The possibility of LeBron James partnering with Stephen Curry in the Bay Area is a terrifying thought for the rest of the league. According to a report from NBA journalist Marc Stein shared on August 18, there was serious talk of uniting the two superstars last season.
At 39 years old, James is entering his 22nd year in the league but still has plenty to offer. Steph Curry is regarded as the greatest shooter in the history of the game. Combine the two and you have a pairing that is virtually unstoppable. Former NBA champion Kevin Garnett believes James' move to the Golden State Warriors could have had a similar impact to Shaquille O'Neal's move to the Boston Celtics.
"We played with Shaq. I don't give a f**k...Shaq was older but he was still looked at as Shaq. If he don't get hurt we win," said Garnett.
Kevin Garnett was discussing the potential James-Curry partnership alongside former Celtics teammate Paul Pierce, who also added his views on Shaq's final years in the league.
"His presence alone," added Pierce
Shaquille O'Neal signed with the Celtics for the 2010-11 season with the aim of securing his fifth NBA championship. Although he played in just 37 games and averaged 20.3 minutes per game, the center was a key figure for a side that went to the Eastern Conference semifinals before losing out to the Miami Heat.
LeBron James and Steph Curry have faced off in the NBA finals on four occasions. Combined, they have won eight champions, six league MVP awards and have been named to the All-Star Game an incredible 30 times. The idea of pairing these two superstars is a mouthwatering prospect for basketball fans around the globe.
