“Montrezl Harrell… get some advice on how to get your butt off the bench” – Former NBA player takes a shot at Montrezl Harrell for post-game antics against Giannis Antetokounmpo

Harrell took the ball from Antetokounmpo as Antetokounmpo was trying to practice shooting free throws after having a bad night from the free-throw line.

The Sixers' Harrell then took the ball from Giannis and prevented him from shooting. A few words were exchanged. Harrell went to the other end to shoot, while Antetokounmpo left the floor to get another ball. When Antetokoumpo returned, the arena’s maintenance staff was trying to take the net down. Giannis got frustrated and pushed the ladder, which toppled over.

This led to viral videos that showed Giannis pushing the ladder.

Have compiled videos from last night's Giannis Antetokounmpo/Montrezl Harrell altercation into one here.

I included timestamps for the videos I was able, using the arena clock in background.

Since the incident, there have been a few discussions on who was right or who was wrong. Some fans believe Giannis went too far and shouldn’t have disrespected the arena employees. Some believe it was Harrell’s fault.

On SiriusXM's NBA Radio, former NBA player Eddie Johnson gave his opinion:

“I just thought it was bush league," Johnson said. "Montrezl Harrell, what is wrong with you? You should have been trying to get some advice on how to get your butt off the bench.”

Johnson's words towards Harrell may have been harsh, but they were not inaccurate. Harrell is only averaging 4.0 points in 10.2 minutes per game. Meanwhile, Giannis is set to become a future Hall of Famer and seemed like he was willing to share the rim and ball with Harrell.

What's Going on With Montrezl Harrell

Montrezl Harrell is an eight-year veteran who played his college basketball at Louisville. Harrell was brought into Philadelphia as a backup to star Joel Embiid. His scoring average and game time this season are his lowest since his rookie season.

This is all a far cry from being named Sixth Man of the Year, which Harrell won in the 2019-20 season. Last season, between his time in Charlotte and Washington he averaged 13.1 ppg and 6.1 rebounds per game and was on the floor for 23.1 mpg.

With Joel Embiid expected to be out for at least the next two games with a foot injury, maybe Harrell will get more time. The team, which was already short-handed before Embiid went out, will need him to provide solid minutes. Harrell’s offensive input and aggressiveness will be needed if the Sixers (8-8) want to stay afloat until Embiid, James Harden and Tyrese Maxey return.
