Dwyane Wade is a father of four: Zaire, Zaya, Xavier and Kaavia, and also serves as Morris's legal guardian.

Wade was granted custody of Dahveon when he was 12 years old through a “concurrent custody by extended family” petition in Miami-Dade County family court.

Judge Barbara Areces made the ruling, according to county records. Dahveon’s mother, Deanna Morris, maintained her parental rights.

The Wade household is a blended family, with Wade having custody of Zaya and Zaire from his previous marriage to Siohvaughn Funches-Wade. Xavier is Wade's child with Aja Metoyer, and Kaavia is the daughter of Wade and Gabrielle Union.

“Year nine was hard for us,” he said. “We were kind of reminiscing how we got to even here.”

He went on to thank Union, saying:

“Thank you for being there to show me all of the things I forget along the way. Thank you for continuing to show me that you ain’t going nowhere, that you’re willing to love me through shortcomings I’ve had and the moments of growth that I have."
