LeBron James and Team USA found a way to win as they advanced past Nikola Jokic and Serbia's men's national team in an intense 95-91 contest on Thursday. The veteran trio of LeBron James, Steph Curry and Kevin Durant earned praise on social media, from teammates to NBA legends offering their support.
NBA Hall of Famer and two-time NBA champion Isiah Thomas offered his thoughts on the all-time great Olympic trio on X, formerly Twitter.
"So happy that in my lifetime I've had the pleasure of watching the @nba generational game changers [Kevin Durant], [LeBron James], [Steph Curry] play together on the same team, love it @usabasketball #Olympics2024Paris," Thomas posted on X.
Team USA faced a 17-point deficit in the matchup versus Serbia, but battled on the back of two historic performances from LeBron James and Steph Curry.
Curry did what he does best, connecting on nine of his 14 three-point attempts, pouring in 36 points while shooting 63 percent from the field.
James set the tempo for Team USA once again, notching a triple-double with 16 points, 10 assists and 12 rebounds. Joel Embiid also added 19 points in the comeback win.
Kevin Durant received recognition for his scoring efforts throughout the Olympics, averaging 13.6 points and breaking Lisa Leslie's Team USA scoring record with a third-quarter basket to bring his total to 489 career Olympic points.
LeBron James, Team USA eye gold medal finish in Paris
After defeating Serbia, Team USA, led by Curry, James and Durant, advanced to the gold medal game versus France. France defeated a tough German team in a 73-69 win to punch their ticket to the gold medal game.
Victor Wembanyama posted 11 points, four assists and seven rebounds in the winning effort despite struggling to find his shooting rhythm. Wembanyama and France will meet Team USA, led by MVP-favorite LeBron James who has turned back the clock with his play in the 2024 Olympics.
As of August 7, LeBron James had -170 odds to secure Olympic MVP, with averages of 14.2 points, 8.2 assists and 7.0 rebounds per contest, leading Team USA to a 5-0 record to this point.
Team USA will look to take home the gold versus France on August 11.
