Giannis Antetokounmpo earns heartfelt shoutout from Serena Williams's husband Alexis Ohanian after winning NBA Cup MVP
Shortly after the Bucks defeated the OKC Thunder 97-81 to win the NBA Cup in Las Vegas, Alexis Ohanian—husband of tennis great Serena Williams—took to Instagram to congratulate Milwaukee's Giannis Antetokounmpo.
On Tuesday night, the Bucks superstar added to his impressive resume by leading the Milwaukee Bucks to victory in the 2024 Emirates NBA Cup. The Greek Freak also went on to bag the NBA Cup MVP award.
"Enjoy it @giannis_an34 NBA CUP MVP," Ohanian's caption read.
Ohanian, the billionaire co-founder of Reddit, was in attendance for the NBA Cup Final at T-Mobile Arena. Before the game started, he posted an image of the Milwaukee Bucks getting loose on the floor. "Let's go. #NBACup" Ohanian wrote on X.
Alexis Ohanian gives valuable support to women's sports
Ohanian's presence in the NBA Cup Final isn't the only way that he's shown support to athletes. Just days before the Bucks-Thunder matchup in Las Vegas, the entrepreneur made the largest donation in the history of the University of Virginia (UVA) women's basketball program.
Nearly two decades after finishing his education in history and commerce at UVA, the 41-year-old Ohanian hopes to elevate his alma mater's hoops program to title contention in the ACC and perhaps even on the national stage.
"It's probably the question I get the most often these days - When are you going to make moves in women's basketball?" he said. "I am proud to support the women's program at my alma mater with this donation. It's time to bring the nation's best hoops talent to Charlottesville and win some championships in the next four years."
This donation of an undisclosed amount is Alexis Ohanian's latest initiative to boost women's sports across different levels. His supportive gestures include being the main investor of Angel FC (a franchise of the National Women's Soccer League) and founding Athlos, a professional track and field series exclusively for women athletes.
