Giannis Antetokounmpo echoes Kobe Bryant-esque message after inching closer to $500k and NBA Cup win
Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks took on the Atlanta Hawks in the semi-finals of the NBA Cup on Saturday. The Bucks are now one step closer to winning the in-season tournament as they beat the Hawks 110-102.
Each player on the team that wins the NBA Cup will receive a prize of $514,971. While Milwaukee has every reason to celebrate being one step closer to this milestone, the Greek Freak who posted a double-double in the win appeared to be locked in for the NBA Cup finals and the rest of the season. Antetokounmpo channeled his inner Kobe Bryant in his post-game comments.
"We've changed our season around," Antetokounmpo said. "But we got to keep going. The job's not done, the job's not done so far. We have 55 games left. So we just got to keep playing the game and hopefully, we can keep getting better."
Back in 2009, Kobe Bryant said something similar during a post-game press conference interview. The media mentioned how the LA Lakers were up 2-0 over the Orlando Magic in the NBA Finals. They then asked Bryant if he was happy about the situation. Kobe responded:
"What's there to be happy about? Job's not finished. Job finished? I don't think so."
Bucks vs Hawks recap: Giannis Antetokounmpo's double-double leads Milwaukee to NBA Cup Finals
The Milwaukee Bucks took on the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday in the NBA Cup semis and are now one step closer to winning the tournament as they beat Atlanta 110-102.
Giannis Antetokounmpo was all business on Saturday putting up a double-double performance. The Greek Freak added 32 points, 14 rebounds, nine assists, four blocks and one steal to lead his team to victory. He missed only five shot attempts and shot 66.7% from the field.
Antetokounmpo was ably assisted by All-Star teammate Damian Lillard who put up solid numbers with 25 points, seven assists, six rebounds and three steals. Despite struggling with his shot and shooting only 38.1%, Lillard managed to make a difference on the floor.
Two other Bucks players were in double figures. Brook Lopez added 16 points while Bobby Portis nearly had a double-double outing with 10 points and nine rebounds.
The Milwaukee Bucks will now wait for the result of the matchup between the OKC Thunder and Houston Rockets. Whoever wins that game will advance to the finals of the NBA Cup and face off against the Bucks on Tuesday night.
