Giannis Antetokounmpo keeps Bucks' spirits high with another 'dad joke' amid 5-game losing streak
Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks are in Cleveland for a rematch against the Cavaliers on Monday, hoping to bounce back after losing 114-113 at home on Saturday. Donovan Mitchell’s mid-range buzzer-beater sent the Bucks to their fifth straight loss.
Despite the losing streak, the Bucks, particularly Antetokounmpo, embraced the Halloween spirit before the flight to Cleveland. The two-time MVP cracked some dad jokes for the team. He jokingly asked a team staff member:
“Why don’t monsters eat ghosts? Because they taste like sheet. S-H-E-E-T. Sheets!”
Seeing Khris Middleton about to join them on the flight, Antetokounmpo tossed a question to his teammate:
“What do you call a witch that’s on the beach? Sandwich!”
Watch the "Greek Freak" dish out the dad jokes below.
Middleton could only shake his head in disbelief and called Giannis Antetokounmpo’s dad joke “terrible.”
Antetokounmpo is known for slipping in dad jokes from time to time, even during interactions with reporters during pregame and postgame press conferences. At times, his jokes earn genuine laughs from the media, while other times, they're met with reactions similar to Khris Middleton's.
Giannis Antetokounmpo's Bucks have nothing to joke about to start the season
After winning their season opener against the Philadelphia 76ers, the Milwaukee Bucks have gone on a five-game losing skid. Milwaukee’s only win came against a team that didn’t have Joel Embiid and Paul George in the lineup. They have badly struggled on both ends of the floor during their forgettable stretch.
Giannis Antetokounmpo is averaging 31.0 points, 12.3 rebounds and 6.3 assists per game, while Damian Lillard is putting up 23.2 ppg, 6.2 apg and 5.2 rpg. However, Doc Rivers' team has yet to show cohesion this season, getting minimal contributions from its supporting cast.
The Bucks, whose defense was a strength last season, is 23rd in defensive rating to start the 2024-25 campaign. Rivers told reporters during training camp that the team would have a different philosophy this season. Whatever changes the coach has installed haven’t been executed well, which is a big reason for their struggles.
Their offense isn't much better, ranking 22nd in offensive rating this season. Bobby Portis (11.0 ppg) and Brook Lopez (10.5 ppg) are the only ones averaging double-digit scoring outside Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard.
Antetokounmpo’s jokes are a welcome respite but the Bucks have very little reason to laugh to start their season.
