Giannis Antetokounmpo gets honest on potentially winning $500,000 from NBA Cup victory
Each player of the NBA Cup's winning team will get a cash prize of around $500,000 while the runners will be awarded around $200,000. Ahead of the tournament's final on Tuesday, Giannis Antetokounmpo admitted to reporters that the cash reward isn't on his mind.
"For me, I don't think, I try not to think about the money," Antetokounmpo said. "I think about the money when we're talking about the young guys. Personally, I try not to think about the money, I think about the game. I don't play basketball, anymore, for the money."
While the eight-time NBA All-Star touched on the potential impact of the $500,000 for some young players, Antetokounmpo said it's more important for him to leave a legacy behind for his children and family to look back on.
"For me, it's [about] creating more art, creating more moments that I can remember, and creating more legacy for myself and something my kids can look back on and say, 'My dad was a bad mf'er when he used to play,'" he said.
In the 23 games he's played in the season, Giannis Antetokounmpo is averaging a league-high 32.7 points per game along with 11.5 rebounds, 6.1 assists and 1.6 blocks. He is also shooting an efficient 61.4% from the field as the Milwaukee Bucks stand fifth in the Eastern Conference with a 14-11 record.
While the Bucks are currently riding a three-game winning streak, they are 4.5-point underdogs for the upcoming championship game against the Thunder on Tuesday.
