Gilbert Arenas' ex-Laura Govan gloats about her 'uncle' negotiating LeBron James, Kevin Durant and Damian Lillard's lifetime shoe dealsĀ
After Damian Lillard signed a lifetime deal with Adidas, Gilbert Arenas' ex, Laura Govan, quickly claimed that her uncle had negotiated three of the four lifetime sneaker company deals of NBA players.
On Wednesday, the Milwaukee Bucks star became the latest player to sign a lifetime deal with a sneaker company after he and the Bucks won the Emirates NBA Cup. While his agent had reportedly been negotiating with Adidas since his prior contract expired last summer, he is now a staple of Adidas basketball.
In a post on her Instagram story, Govan shared a screenshot from an article discussing Lillard's agent, Aaron Goodwin, and the deal he signed.
"Out of 4 lifetime player contracts my uncle has done 3 of the 4 F****g goat! Proud of you! And now @damianlillard ... Family ties ..." Govan wrote.
Fact-Checking Gilbert Arenas' ex claim that her uncle negotiated three of the four lifetime deals between NBA players and sneaker companies
While Gilbert Arenas' ex claimed that her uncle has now negotiated three of the four lifetime deals NBA players have signed with sneaker companies, it appears she is mistaken.
In the article posted on her story, it says that Aaron Goodwin negotiated the lifetime deal between Adidas and Damian Lillard, and LeBron James and Kevin Durant's initial deals with Nike.
Durant signed with Nike in 2007; however, he parted ways with Goodwin in 2012 before signing a lifetime deal in 2023.
In the case of LeBron James, Goodwin was his first agent and negotiated many of his early deals, but in 2005, he parted ways with Goodwin in favor of his friend Rich Paul. In 2015, he signed a lifetime deal with Nike.
Despite the misunderstanding, Goodwin has worked with some of the biggest names in the NBA like DeMar DeRozan, Gary Payton and Chris Webber, among others. Additionally, there's no denying that he was instrumental in negotiating Lillard's lifetime deal with Adidas.
