Gilbert Arenas' ex Laura Govan shows support as son Alijah Arenas hoops with Kevin Durant
It seems like Alijah Arenas' stock rises a little higher with every passing month. Alijah, the son of former NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas, is one of the most talented high school prospects in the nation. It is rare that a 17-year-old garners this much attention but Arenas has proven time and time again that he can back up the hype.
On Friday, it was Laura Govan, Arenas' mother, who showed some love to the rising star on her Instagram account. Govan's latest IG story shows clips of her son playing one-on-one alongisde former MVP Kevin Durant and other NBA stars with the caption:
"My baby going to work!!!"
She followed that up with another image of Arenas posting up Durant with the caption:
"Alijah Arenas going at NBA players!"
Arenas still has a long way to go before breaking through as a professional but the young guard showed off an impressive skillset against some of the NBA's best players.
Friday's workouts were set up by Proactive Sports Performance in California.
Alijah Arenas' father, Gilbert, had an impressive 11-year career in the NBA where he played 552 games with the Golden State Warriors, Washington Wizards, Orlando Magic and Memphis Grizzlies. He was a three-time All-Star and finished with 11,402 points over his career.
Alijah Arenas is considered a top five recruit in the 2026 high school class
Alijah Arenas has shown over his young career that he can do it all. The 6-foot-5 shooting guard who plays at Chatsworth High School in California is one of the most complete players in his class. Like his father, Arenas has shown that he can produce big numbers offensively. He also has the ability to drive, pass and play defense at a high level.
Per 247 Sports, Arenas is ranked as the No. 4 recruit in the 2026 class. He is the No. 3 player out of California and is ranked No.1 overall in his position.
Arenas has plenty of Division I interest from top schools, with Alabama, Arizona, Arizona State, UCLA, UC Berkeley and Fresno State all reportedly extending offers to the young man.
Gilbert Arenas was a star at the University of Arizona between 1999-2001 and it will be interesting to see whether Alijah chooses to follow in his father's footsteps.
