Gilbert Arenas fuels Scott Foster's 'series extender' moniker as Timberwolves avoid sweep
Gilbert Arenas had an interesting reaction to Scott Foster officiating the Minnesota Timberwolves' big win over the Dallas Mavericks, extending the 2024 Western Conference finals by one more game.
Former Washington Wizards guard Gilbert Arenas had a telling reaction after the game. He shared a picture of referee Scott Foster with the words 'Series Extended.'
Foster has earned a reputation in the NBA thanks to some controversial calls and the fact that Chris Paul went winless with him on the court for 13 games. He has been nicknamed 'The Extender,' referring to his record when it comes to extending a series.
Despite Luka Doncic's efforts, the Dallas Mavericks couldn't finish the job and advance to the 2024 NBA Finals. Instead, Minnesota forced Game 5 at home, trying to return to Dallas for Game 6.
Anthony Edwards finished the night with 29 points while Karl-Anthony Towns added 25.
Stan Van Gundy criticizes Scott Foster, officiating crew during Timberwolves, Mavericks game
It seems like whenever he's on the court, Foster makes sure to leave an impression on fans, players, and last night, even commentators. Former NBA coach-turned-analyst Stan Van Gundy wasn't happy with Foster and his crew Tuesday night, as they took too much time to review a play and make a call.
"We're taking way too much time here," Van Gundy said. "Though, I've heard from a lot of fans, they LOVE watching referees stand at the monitor and watch replays."
These comments came after Rudy Gobert got into a little scuffle with Derrick Jones Jr. Officials originally called a technical foul on Jones before they reviewed the play.
Van Gundy and his broadcast partner, NBA legend Reggie Miller, weren't happy about this and lost patience with Foster and his crew. In the end, they called a tech on both Gobert and Jones, which also resulted in a sarcastic reaction from Van Gundy.
"Well, that took a lot of time for much ado about nothing," Van Gundy said.
NBA insider calls out Scott Foster for calls during Timberwolves-Nuggets Game 7
Scott Foster was also designated for Game 7 of the Western Conference semifinals between the Minnesota Timberwolves and Denver Nuggets. Foster's in-game calls were criticized by insider Dane Moore.
Moore wasn't happy with Foster 'ringing people up' during that match.
"Scott Foster LOVES ringing people up for fouls more than a Little League umpire," Moore wrote on May 19.
The Timberwolves dramatically won that game, sending the defending NBA champions home and advancing to the WCF.
Now, the situation is different for them. They face an uphill battle against the Mavericks, who can end the series with just one more win.
