Glen Davis' 3-year prison stint delayed to wrap up his documentary: Report

Former NBA player Glen Davis will get to extend his freedom due to an ongoing filming project. ESPN reported the former Boston Celtics forward won't get to start his three-year prison sentence for defrauding an insurance plan for NBA players and their families because of a documentary.

Judge Valerie E. Caproni stated on Wednesday that Davis can wait until Oct. 22 to start his prison sentence. His sentence will go on for three years and four months. According to ESPN, the former forward should've started his sentence last Sunday, August 25.

Davis' lawyer claimed that the 2008 champion is working on a documentary about his life.

Attorney Brendan White requested the delay on Tuesday, per reports. White claimed that a Hollywood production company requires the documentary to be finished before the former NBA player will start his prison sentence. White also claimed that there have been delays in completing the project.

The attorney shared difficulties in reaching out to Davis' former teammates and colleagues regarding the project. Judge Caproni stated in her order that the 6-foot-9 forward "owes significant restitution" to a victim.

Davis' lawyer shared that the potential revenue from the film could help gratify $80,000 in restitution.

Davis wasn't the only player involved in the health insurance scam as he was joined by at least two dozen former NBA players. The scam also included doctors who worked with them in their plans.

The former LSU forward is not a stranger in front of the camera. In 2016, he put his NBA career on hold as he pursued a career in film production. Davis had guest appearances on shows like "Shameless," "A Dark Way Out" and "Power Book IV: Force," to name a few.

This isn't the first time Davis attempted stand-up comedy. In 2023, he had his special called "Glen Davis - Stand Up Comedy Special." DJ Vlad got to interview the former Celtic in 2022 where he opened up his passion for comedy.

"Comedy's always been like something been a part of my life, any type of way," Davis said. "I've always been a funny guy always making people laugh. My career on the court was funny, energetic. I was just sitting back and I was just like, 'Man, I think I should try this comedian thing.'"

While he waits for his sentence, Davis can keep his mood light through comedy.
