"Go daddy go" - Gilbert Arenas clowns Bronny James over his potential future alongside LeBron James on Lakers
On the latest episode of Gil’s Arena, former Washington Wizards star Gilbert Arenas had a hilarious take on Bronny James’ potential contributions to the LA Lakers.
LeBron James’ 19-year-old son was picked by the Lakers as the 55th, second-round pick of the 2024 NBA Draft.
While much had been made about Bronny’s potential impact on the team, his run thus far in the NBA Summer League has been less than ordinary for the Lakers. This has brought forth a range of questions over whether he is ready for the NBA, with Arenas coming up with a hilarious take on the situation.
Asked by Brandon Jennings what he expects Bronny James to do for the Lakers immediately, Arenas responded by standing up and clapping. After this, he uttered the following:
"Go Daddy Go!"
Asked to elaborate, Arenas claimed that being a second-round pick, fans simply cannot expect Bronny to be an asset for the Lakers anytime soon. Instead, he sees the 19-year-old as a non-playing member of the roster:
“Okay, what you need? Some towels, here is some water. Sit there, talk to the coach. As a second-round pick, what do you expect? Him to learn, understand, be cheerful, but he is going to be that anyway!”
Arenas went on to explain to Jennings that he may not even be aware of the second-round picks that other teams have made.
Hence, the only reason expectations have been placed on Bronny James is that he is the son of LeBron James, and not because of his basketball stock.
Bronny James is ‘okay’ with any assignment from LA Lakers after Summer League
There is little doubt that Bronny has consistently struggled in his three Summer League appearances thus far. Bronny has mustered a total of 12 points across the three appearances, during which he has converted just 6 of his 26 overall attempts thus far.
Defensively, he has been better, but the player needs to work on his physique and needs to improve drastically in order to become a regular contributor to his team. However, the positive is that Bronny seems well aware of that fact, as he recently claimed he will be willing to take on any offered role with the Lakers:
"I'm just looking forward to any basketball I play, no matter what level I'm playing at. I just feel like I'm in a little slump right now.”
Now set to play against the Boston Celtics on Monday, Bronny still has three Summer League games in order to acclimatize himself better. However, that might do little to do away the doubt that currently plagues his talent, and the 19-year-old will still need to prove himself when the NBA season arrives.
