"Go Suga": Russell Westbrook hypes wife Nina starring in latest Cadillac commercial
Russell Westbrook proudly supported his wife, Nina Westbrook, who starred in an ad for the all-electric Cadillac LYRIC SUV. Nina posted the commercial on Instagram, speaking about balancing roles as a wife, mom and entrepreneur and needing a car that reflects her dynamic lifestyle.
Westbrook, known as “The Brodie,” reshared her post on his Instagram story, adding fire emojis with the caption:
“Go Suga @ninawestbrook.”
The couple’s story began at UCLA, where they both played basketball. Russell represented the Bruins from 2006 to 2008 before being drafted into the NBA. The two started dating in 2007.
The college sweethearts married each other on Aug.29, 2015, and two years later, in May 2017, they welcomed their first child, Noah Russell Westbrook. The following year, Nina gave birth to twin daughters, Skye and Jordyn.
Nina Westbrook defends Russell Westbrook from Ryan Clark’s criticism
During the offseason, Nina Westbrook came to her husband's defense after former NFL safety Ryan Clark made critical comparisons on ESPN’s “Get Up” between Baltimore Ravens’ Lamar Jackson and Russell Westbrook. Clark drew a negative parallel, saying:
"Lamar Jackson right now is like Russell Westbrook, right? We watch Russell Westbrook, throughout the regular season and even in the playoffs have these great statistical games, have this huge impact on what teams are doing," Clark said.
"But you remember when he and Dame Lillard went head-to-head and it got emotional, he couldn't make a shot, right? Everything he was trying to aim, every time he was open, it was hitting the back of the iron. It wouldn't go in.”
Nina responded on Instagram, expressing frustration that Westbrook was facing criticism even before the season began while highlighting both Westbrook and Jackson as exceptional “unicorns.”
“My goodness! Just as a basketball fan, we couldn’t even wait for the NBA season to start up before the Russell slander begins?” Nina said. “The only comparison to be made between Russell and Lamar [is] that they’re both unicorns and amazing at what they do.”
Nina joked that critics wait until the season starts before casting judgment.
“Before you start hating on Russell, at least let the basketball season start and let him miss a layup or something first,” she said. “I’m still enjoying the peace and the silence.”
Westbrook is set to make his Nuggets debut on Thursday against his former team, the OKC Thunder. Since leaving the Thunder, the league's triple-double leader has played for the Houston Rockets, Washington Wizards, LA Lakers and LA Clippers.
