"Got me dead man" — Damian Lillard can't contain his laughter over bizarre Evan Fournier and Dennis Schroder heated altercation
Damian Lillard couldn’t stop laughing at a scuffle between Dennis Schroder and Evan Fournier. The friendly game between Germany and France was far from friendly when Fournier tried to choke Schroder. Lillard reacted to the incident on his social media.
The Milwaukee Bucks star shared a post by Bleacher Report on his Instagram story and wrote:
"The flinch after running up got me dead man."
Fournier stripped the ball off Schroder, leaving him on the floor. Schroder quickly got up in fury and went up to the French player, but before putting his hands on Fournier, the German player stopped for a second.
Fournier reacted and started to choke Schroder with his hands. Eventually, both players were separated from their teammates. Schroder later came to Fournier and tried to talk to him, but it was of no use, as they had to be separated again.
The video is being circulated on social media. One of the reasons that Lillard and the basketball world are reacting to this is that both Schroder and Fournier are NBA players. Schroder plays for the Brooklyn Nets, and Fournier plays for the Detroit Pistons.
Damian Lillard takes shot at Dennis Schroder and Germany team after FIBA World Cup
Last year, the German men’s basketball team won the FIBA World Cup after defeating Serbia in the final. The Canadian team secured the third spot, leaving Team USA in fourth. Schroder and his German teammates had previously defeated Team USA in the semifinal.
It was one of the highlights of Schroder’s career, who helped his team win the title and also won the tournament MVP award. Although Lillard wasn’t part of the team, it left a bad taste in the American basketball player's mouth.
Lillard said the NBA champions are the world champions because the best players of the FIBA World Cup played in the NBA.
“The NBA champs are world champs. I’ve been seeing everybody, coz they lost in the World Cup, like ‘we told you’. But, the best players in the world play in the NBA, all the best players in that tournament played in the NBA,” said Lillard.
The comments from Lillard followed comments from American sprinter Noah Lyles, who had made fun of NBA teams calling themselves "world champions" after winning the NBA title. While his comments received a backlash from players like Lillard, he also received support from players such as Greek superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo.
