Guerschon Yabusele reacts after posterizing LeBron James with ferocious dunk in Olympic final: "I said a few words to him"
France star Guerschon Yabusele opened up on posterizing LeBron James with a thunderous dunk in the Olympic gold medal game against Team USA on Saturday. The 28-year-old Real Madrid power forward sent social media into a frenzy after he elevated and dunked all over LeBron, who stationed himself to take a charge.
Yabusele's dunk instantly went viral and became one of the highlights of the recently-concluded Summer Games in Paris. The former Boston Celtics player looked back on his ferocious dunk and confirmed that he plans to hang the poster in his house.
"My dunk on LeBron, I had no choice," Yabusele told the French media after the game, as quoted by the BasketNews.
"When I see him, I tell myself it's either I dunk or he blocks me. But I'm still going to put the poster up at home," he added.
The 2023 EuroLeague champion was pumped after pulling off a highlight play that transpired during the second quarter. The players on France's bench jumped out of their seats and the crowd inside Arena was shocked and ecstatic at the same time.
Yabusele also confirmed that he taunted LeBron after the play.
"I can tell you that I said a few words to him, I think," he later told RMC Sport.
The two-time Liga ACB champion was exceptional for France in the two most important games. The 6-foot-8 forward scored 20 points on 6-of-14 shooting from the field, including 1-of-4 from the 3-point range against Team USA in the final.
In the semifinal against Germany, the 2021 French Cup winner scored 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field.
Guerschon Yabusele seeks a second chance
Guerschon Yabusele showcased his potential on the big stage by playing a key role in helping France secure the silver medal. After an exhilarating performance in the gold medal game against a star-studded Team USA, the 28-year-old voiced his desire to return to the NBA.
"Been waiting for a 2nd chance.. I’m ready, " Yabusele wrote on X.
Yabusele was part of the NBA for three years. The France star played 74 games and averaged 2.3 points for the Boston Celtics from the 2017 to 2019.
Following his standout performance on the international stage, the chances of NBA franchises offering Yabusele another opportunity have significantly increased.
The three-time Spanish Supercup winner played in all six games for France in the Olympics and averaged 23.3 minutes. Yabusele averaged 14 points on 51.9% shooting from the field, including 28.6% from beyond the arc. He shot 81.5% from the free throw line.
The 28-year-old also averaged 3.3 rebounds, 1.0 assist and 0.5 blocks per game.
