"Gwaan big up yuhself": Steph Curry's wife Ayesha Curry hypes up Warriors superstar with Usain Bolt's message ahead of 2024 Olympics
Steph Curry has two FIBA World Cup gold medals. He was part of Team USA which topped the field in 2010 in Turkey and four years later in Spain. Curry didn’t play in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics to get healthy following ankle injuries.
The Golden State Warriors superstar is making his Olympic debut this year. He is a crucial member of the Americans’ star-studded basketball team that is expected to win its fifth straight gold medal.
Although Steph Curry hasn’t played one minute of Olympic basketball yet, he already has a legend as one of his biggest fans. Usain Bolt, considered by many to be the greatest sprinter ever, sent a message to the four-time NBA champ.
Ayesha Curry, Steph Curry’s wife, was so thrilled with Bolt’s words that she went on Instagram to say:
“@stephencurry30 gwaaaan big up yuhself!”
The iconic Jamaican athlete said this to Curry before the basketball competition started:
“Usain [Bolt] here. I just wanna say congratulations on making the Olympic team. I know you guys are going to dominate. I just want to wish you all the best. I know you’re gonna do great. I also wanna say I’m a fan. I’ve been watching you for years, dominating the sport, doing extremely well.”
Fans expect Team USA to win the gold medal, but some don’t see them dominating the opposition the way Usain Bolt did in his prime. The Americans nearly lost to Olympic debutants South Sudan in an exhibition game. Steph Curry and Co. also needed another LeBron James masterpiece to beat Germany two nights later.
The Americans could overwhelm the field if they improve their chemistry and get Curry to shoot like he usually does in the NBA.
Usain Bolt will be thrilled if Steph Curry shoots well in the Olympics
Steph Curry’s best game in Team USA’s pre-Olympic slate was against Serbia. He hit 6-of-9 3-pointers and caused the Serbians problems even with his movement. If he continues to shoot like that, the Americans are likely blowing away the field.
Usain Bolt, a longtime fan of the two-time NBA MVP, should be familiar with what Curry causes opponents when he has his touch. The legendary sprinter will be thrilled if the NBA’s greatest shooter performs as expected.
Steph Curry shot 1-for-7 from deep against Germany. He also went 1-for-6 versus Australia in another close win. If that is the trend in the Olympics, the Americans might have some rough moments.
Usain Bolt’s message should inspire Curry. At his best, Bolt had the sporting world in his hands with record-breaking performances. Ayesha Curry will be hoping his husband can create legendary displays for Team USA in Paris.
