Half conscious Jared McCain provides surgery update with unexpected Drake shoutout
After going down with a torn meniscus last Friday against the Indiana Pacers, Rookie of the Year frontrunner Jared McCain opted for surgery. While there are several different routes athletes can take to recover from a meniscus tear, McCain and the team settled on surgery, despite no word on just how severe of a tear the Philadelphia 76ers standout suffered.
While fans wait for updates on whether McCain had a full repair, or a meniscectomy, the budding young star posted an update on social media after surgery. In it, he can be seen appearing groggy from anesthesia.
Despite that, after giving Drake a shoutout, McCain sang for fans, showing that he's in good spirits after what the 76ers described as a "successful surgery."
"We the best Music. Shout out Drizzy shout out the Six god. ... I don't know, but bye TikTok, I'll see you later."
Philadelphia 76ers update fans after Jared McCain undergoes meniscus surgery
In addition to Jared McCain letting fans know that he was out of surgery, the Philadelphia 76ers' PR team updated media members. PHLY Sports' Kyle Neubeck relayed the press release to fans, which read:
"Jared McCain underwent successful surgery today to repair the lateral meniscus tear in his left knee. He remains out indefinitely and updates on his recovery will be shared as appropriate."
Typically, recovery from surgery to repair a torn meniscus could take several months, however, it doesn't come with nearly as many potential complications as a meniscectomy, where the torn meniscus is removed.
Dwyane Wade famously had a meniscectomy performed while at Marquette. Throughout his career, Wade alleged that the operation to remove the meniscus was a major contributing factor to the knee problems he had throughout his career.
On the flip side, players like Russell Westbrook and Chris Paul (to name just a few) undergo meniscus repairs like McCain. These players, unlike Wade, have been able to bounce back without lingering complications plaguing their careers.
In the case of Jared McCain, while the injury effectively ends his chance of winning the Rookie of the Year award, he will likely be able to return to action before the end of the season.
