Hall of Fame NBA coach vents his feelings on President-elect Donald Trump: "I’m worried for my Grandkids"
Legendary NBA coach George Karl, who was the 2013 Coach of the Year with the Denver Nuggets, has been pretty open about his political stance in recent weeks. As the U.S. inched closer to Election Day, Karl continued to share posts on X, formerly Twitter, weighing in on the election and why he believes Donald Trump is a bad choice.
On Wednesday, after the race was called in Trump's favor, Karl took to social media to criticize the President-elect, saying that he's worried about the world his grandkids will grow up in.
On Wednesday he wrote:
"I feel hungover but I didn’t drink. I’m worried for my Grandkids. I’m sad that we have slowed the progress of positivity in our country. I’m angry the ugly will be dressed up and made to look hopeful and playful. I pray the checks and balances in place will hold up."
Karl has been an incredibly vocal figure in NBA and the world of basketball for years now. Time and time again his candid responses to situations and questions have caught the attention of fans and media members alike.
For example, on more than one occasion, Karl has even given his unfiltered thoughts on former NBA players like Carmelo Anthony and JR Smith. This week, however, Karl's social media posts have primarily centered around the election.
"Unfollow me or don't" - Legendary NBA coach George Karl sends clear message to those who disagree with his political posts
After sharing his thoughts on the election and President-elect Donald Trump, the legendary coach fired off another post less than five minutes later. He asked those who disagreed with him to simply unfollow him.
In addition, he also made it clear that he was going to continue to share his unfiltered thoughts for as long as he can, something that should come as no surprise to NBA fans:
"Unfollow me or don’t. How you feel about me has little impact on what I believe or keep doing. I’m alive, I’m here and for however many days I get to keep doing this thing called life, I’m gonna be real and a truth teller."
Karl's post was met with mixed reactions as some praised him for speaking his mind and others criticized his viewpoint. In addition, some members of the NBA community pointed out that although they respectfully disagree with his views, they plan to continue to follow him online.
With plenty of time between now and the inauguration, expect more political posts from Karl in the days to come.
