"Hard-nosed, tough, no BS" - Team USA coach Ty Lue provides insight into Erik Spoelstra's unique coaching style

Los Angeles Clippers coach Ty Lue recently praised Erik Spoelstra's leadership style during their current tenure as coaches for the USA Men's National Basketball Team. Some of the world's best sideline leaders have met under Team USA's coaching umbrella.

The current Team USA staff includes head coach Steve Kerr and his assistants Lue, Spoelstra and Mark Few. While talking to USA Today, the former NBA veteran shared these insights regarding Spoelstra's coaching style:

"Hard-nosed, tough, no BS," Lue said (via USA Today). "His teams play hard, they compete. They're always going to be in shape. They're going to do things the right way, and it doesn't change. He's the same way. Fiery, into it, passionate about it, and so when he speaks and is making a point, guys are locked in and paying attention."

Lue credited Spoelstra for commanding player attention and maintaining a focused environment during multiple 82-game seasons. Through this tenacity, the Miami Heat coach has earned his professional stripes. After LeBron James chose to leave the Cavs and join the Heat, forming the big three with D-Wade and Chris Bosh, Spoelstra maximized that lineup.

The former video coordinator led the Heat to four NBA Finals and won back-to-back NBA championships in 2012 and 2013 while cementing his legacy as one of the greatest coaches in Miami Heat history.

Erik Spoelstra applauds Ty Lue's creative coaching style

Each Team USA coach recently shared their opinions with USA Today regarding their sideline peers. Spoelstra shared his insights on Ty Lue and compared him to the mathematician and economist from the movie A Beautiful Mind.

"He's a very creative thinker, and he's not afraid to take calculated chances, particularly in a playoff series. He has a great feel for teams and personnel tendencies, and I've gotten to know him; I enjoy seeing how he thinks the game," Spoelstra said (via USA Today).

The Heat legend credited Lue for being a creative thinker who isn't afraid to try new strategies and tactics, even in playoff games. Lue became the Cavaliers' head coach midway through the 2015-16 season and made NBA history by winning his first ten postseason games.

Lue won the NBA title that year while defeating Steve Kerr's Golden State Warriors. The 47-year-old led the Cavs to two more NBA Finals but lost both times to the Warriors.
