“He is up to his a** in alligators, man” – NBA analyst informs Warriors’ coach exploring his defense options with current roster
The Golden State Warriors are becoming a target for every opposing team in the NBA. That's exactly what happens when you're the defending champion. Coach Steve Kerr knows he has one of the deepest rosters in the league. Because of that, some challenges can arise early on.
Golden State had an impressive offseason and looks to have arguably a better roster than their previous championship season. But there are still plenty of obstacles left for the team to figure out. One of those obstacles involves figuring out defensive options.
A number of veterans on this Golden State team have thrived over the years. Players such as Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green have been the backbone of this team. But with an impressive amount of youth on the team comes inexperience.
Golden State has struggled defensively to start out the 2022-23 season. After last night's loss against the Phoenix Suns, the Warriors find themselves 2-2. Speaking recently on 95.7 The Game, analyst Kevin Harlan spoke about how Kerr is trying to get the Warriors to buy in defensively.
"He is up to his a** in alligators, man. First of all, he's bringing in a new defensive coordinator because Mike (Brown) is gone...with a lot of change, comes adjustment...he's, right now, trying to get his team to buy into the defense which was a big component of last year's winning push."
Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr looks to find a balance with stacked roster
After last night's 134-105 loss against the Phoenix Suns, it's clear that the Golden State Warriors defense has become a bit of an issue. Golden State is currently giving up an average of 124 points per game. For a team that is known as an offensive powerhouse, it's an alarming task to try to counter that difference.
The Warriors have the veteran pieces to make adjustments and figure this out. It's something that they've done brilliantly over the years, including last year's championship team. The biggest challenge for head coach Steve Kerr will be finding a balance with his youth and veteran pieces.
Golden State has some fascinating young talent on their roster. Rising star Jordan Poole has continued to impress after his recent contract extension. Big man James Wiseman looks to be finding his footing and has impressed. With young wings such as Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody in the mix, Golden State is stacked. But there's still plenty of kinks for this team to figure out moving forward.
The team will look to get above .500 in their upcoming showdown against the Miami Heat. The season is still young, and this team knows this. But at the same time, they know they need to get ahead and make a run early on in a talented Western Conference.
