"He is a guy who is going to age well": Warriors head coach Steve Kerr predicts a long career for birthday boy Stephen Curry
Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr believes Stephen Curry still has a lot left in his tank.
On the occasion of his 35th birthday, Curry said that his initial aim was to emulate his father Dell, who played in the NBA for 16 years. Already a two-time MVP winner, Curry is going strong at the age of 35 and is averaging 29.6 points per game. The four-time NBA champion is already regarded as one of the greatest players of all time, and easily the greatest in franchise history as well.
Speaking to Andscape, Kerr said that he believes Curry will continue to play well for a number of years:
“He’s definitely the best conditioned athlete I’ve ever been around in the NBA. No one combines the work ethic with the skillset and the ability to put that all together in this package of incredible endurance and quickness. Every time he comes back, I watch him work.
“He is a guy who is going to age well. He is still playing at really high level. It is incredible to watch him work.”
Stephen Curry receives high praise from Draymond Green
While Stephen Curry is not the only player who is at least 35 yeras old playing at a high level, he is doing it without the size and physicality. Curry recently said that he believed the Warriors’ core group had left behind their best years at the start of last season. With Klay Thompson's injury issues and Draymond Green’s wavering level of play, the Golden State Warriors (36-33) have missed their star players for crucial phases.
Regardless, they have regrouped and have dragged themselves back into contention this season and are fifth in the Western Conference. Considering their reliance on Curry, Green might be right in claiming Curry is one of the most impactful players ever:
“It’s incredible. Because of what LeBron (James) has done after 35, people have taken for granted what that age means in the NBA. Especially, a guard (Curry’s) size. You’ve seen players a little bigger go longer, but not at his size. I think it is so special and impressive what he is doing.
"The attention to detail to what he is doing on a daily basis puts him in position to be as great as it is. It is the most incredible thing to me. To just watch him at that size dominate at this age, we have never seen anything like this.”
