"He knows better than that" - Steph Curry drops cocky comment after Klay Thompson taunts him with 'shimmy'
Steph Curry dropped a cocky reaction after Klay Thompson taunted him with the shimmy in Tuesday's clash between the Dallas Mavericks and Golden State Warriors. Thompson hit the shimmy in the first half after knocking a 3 when Curry was on the bench. That was followed by the Warriors point guard nodding on the bench and smiling at his former teammate's antics.
However, Curry got the last laugh after a 10-0 personal run in the clutch helped Golden State close Dallas 120-117 in a crunch encounter. When asked about Thompson's shimmy, here's what Curry said:
“He knows better than that”
Thompson and Curry were at it as the former Warrior dropped 22 points and shot six 3-pointers. Meanwhile, Curry scored 37. He certainly seemed to take that personally, and his animated celebrations proved that. Curry also hit the 'night night' celebration after hitting the shot that sealed the game for the Warriors.
The tensions were seemingly high despite the history between the two former teammates who won four titles together. They went at each other from the first possession, with Steph Curry guarding Klay Thompson and fouling him on that play. Curry's fired-up reaction at the end of the game also proved a testament to the magnitude of this matchup.
Steph Curry reflects on back-and-forth with Klay Thompson
Steph Curry and Klay Thompson masterfully kept their emotions aside in their first matchup against each other. Their competitive edge seemingly took the game over. Curry reflected on that and said it was expected because of their past.
"That’s my guy, my friend, my bro-dog for 13 years. … You’re gonna have a lot of back and forth. Some of it was competitive. Some of it was fun. And thankfully, we were all able to focus on the game and just hoop and compete," Curry told reporters after the game (h/t 95.7 The Game).
Curry began the back-and-forth after pointing at Thompson following his first 3 of the night on his former teammate. Thompson hit the shimmy after that, and then Curry stared him down after scoring an and-1 floater against the ex-Warrior.
Meanwhile, Klay Thompson said it was 'surreal' to be in this matchup with Steph Curry and the Warriors to lock horns for the first time in a competitive setting. He also reflected on the 'shimmy,' saying it's something he's done before and instinctive in that moment.
He didn't shy away from claiming he might do it again. The Warriors and Mavericks face three more times, giving Thompson plenty of chances to avenge Tuesday's close loss.
