"He reminds people of Michael Jordan" - Karl-Anthony Towns underscores Anthony Edwards' standout traits that could make him NBA poster boy
New York Knicks star Karl-Anthony Towns praised his former teammate Anthony Edwards during an appearance on Shannon Sharpe’s “Club Shay Shay” on Tuesday, October 2. Towns, an All-Star big man, spoke highly of Edwards, expressing his belief that the two-time All-Star has the potential to become the face of the NBA.
Edwards is often mentioned among the league’s rising stars. Last season, he impressed fans with one of the best performances of his career, averaging 25.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 5.1 assists during the 2023-24 season.
Edwards also finished seventh in the MVP voting last season. He led the Minnesota Timberwolves to the Western Conference finals but fell short of beating the Dallas Mavericks.
With all that he's accomplished over the past four seasons, many fans and critics now view the 6-4 guard as the face of the league in the future.
In his show, Sharpe brought up the topic and asked KAT about what he thinks. The Knicks center didn't hesitate to praise his former teammate.
"I think he can," KAT said on Ant being the face of the NBA.
"I know he reminds people a lot about [Michael] Jordan, but why not just Ant? He could be the first Anthony Edwards. Which ain't bad at all.
"I think he has the charisma, age is on his side, he has the athleticism. He got better at shooting, I think he could do it. This is a very guard-friendly league and he's a guard that has -- not only the skill but the intangibles needed to really be the face of the NBA for years to come."

Former NBA star thinks Anthony Edwards is the face of the league
Karl-Anthony Towns isn't the only player who thinks Anthony Edwards has what it takes to be the league's poster boy. Former NBA star Carmelo Anthony is a fan of Edwards and sees him as the next big superstar of the league.
In an episode of his podcast "7 PM in Brooklyn," Melo named one trait that separates Edwards from the other stars: his aura.
Anthony even compared Edwards to Jayson Tatum, a player who has become one of the league's best players. According to the 10-time All-Star, Edwards' "aura" has played a significant role in how fans and other stars view him.
