"Heir to Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant"- Mike Greenberg claims 2x All-Star will win more championships than Luka Doncic in 10 years
Is the next Michael Jordan in the NBA right now? Despite being down 3-1 in the Western Conference finals, the hype around Anthony Edwards as the next Jordan continues to swell. ESPN’s Mike Greenberg placed Edwards in the loftiest of categories. Greenberg thinks Edwards is the brightest young star in the league. He would take him over anyone.
"You can include Luka, you can include Giannis, you can include Jokic, you can include anyone you want. Over the next 10 years, the guy I think that will win more championships than anyone else is Anthony Edwards,” Greenberg said.
The praise did not end there. He also compared the Timberwolves star to some of the best to ever play the game.
“If I had to start a team with any of them right now, that is who I would take. He is 22 years old. He does it on both sides of the floor. He is the heir to Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant. He is not faking it or trying to be Like Mike or trying to adopt the Mamba Mentality, he just has it,” Greenberg said.
Is Anthony Edwards the next Michael Jordan?
It is a question that has been thrown around a lot this postseason. Anthony Edwards is getting comparisons to the GOAT after his continued clutch performances and fiery, competitive energy.
Mike Greenberg is another NBA analyst who sees Jordan and Kobe-esque qualities in the young guard. He admired how Edwards plays hard on both ends of the floor. He also thinks Edwards plays with the a strong mentality that separates him from his peers. His mental toughness reminds him of past NBA legends.
“This kid was born with the same stuff those guys were born with,” Greenberg said. “He will D up your guy any day of the week and your guy cannot D him up.”
Edwards is on the brink of elimination, which may change the narrative around him a bit. However, he delivered a clutch performance and made huge shots down the stretch of Game 4 to keep his team alive.
Edwards hit two clutch jumpers to maintain the Wolves' late lead as the Mavs attempted a comeback. He ended the game with 29 points on 11-of-25 shooting. He also added 10 rebounds and nine assists in the triumphant effort.
Edwards played 40 minutes to lead the team, once again showing that competitive energy that is resulting in comparisons to Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant. An elimination loss at the hands of Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving may bring out some of the critics who will try to cool down the “heir to Michael Jordan” talk.
Edwards and the Wolves will try to stay alive once again at home in Game 5 against the Mavericks on Thursday.
