"History is going to say f**k you anyway" - Gilbert Arenas gets candid on LeBron James, Steph & KD's potential partnership
The recent success of Team USA's gold-medal-winning team at the Olympics has reignited fan excitement over the possibility of LeBron James, Steph Curry and Kevin Durant teaming up in the NBA. As these three iconic players enter the twilight years of their careers, the prospect of seeing them join forces in the league has captured the imagination of many.
Retired NBA star Gilbert Arenas weighed in on the potential partnership during an episode of his podcast. Arenas, known for his candid takes, encouraged the trio to make the move without worrying about public opinion.
He said that, at this stage in their careers, they have nothing left to prove, and such a partnership wouldn't diminish their legacies as all-time greats.
"I mean, as just a basketball fan, man. Just do it. I mean, neither one of you n****s is going to move up in the public's mind, so just go in there, win it, and do this (raises middle fingers up) to everybody,” Arenas said.
“History's going to say 'f**k you' anyway."
Currently, all three stars are under contract with their respective teams. LeBron James recently signed a two-year, $104 million deal with the Lakers, keeping him in LA with a player option for the 2025-26 season.
Kevin Durant is committed to the Phoenix Suns through the 2025-26 season, and Steph Curry is also under contract with the Golden State Warriors until 2025-26.
Will LeBron James, Steph Curry and Kevin Durant play in the Olympics again?
Team USA's 2024 Paris Olympics roster, dubbed internally as the “Avengers,” featured a star-studded lineup with LeBron James, Steph Curry and Kevin Durant leading the charge.
However, it appears this may be the final Olympic appearance for the seasoned stars.
"Nah, I can't see myself playing in Los Angeles 2028," James said. "I didn't see myself playing in Paris 2024, too. But four years from now, I can't see it."
Similarly, Steph Curry has suggested that his Olympic career might be over.
“This is the one and done, baby. Gold medal. You do it like that,” he said in an Instagram live.
NBA insider Brian Windhorst has hinted that Kevin Durant might still be in the mix for the 2028 Games, despite being 39 years old at that time.
“I would not rule out KD playing,” Windhorst said in an episode of “The Hoop Collective" podcast.
“And I talked with Team USA officials, and they would give him a provisional yes right now.”
LeBron James has amassed three gold medals and one bronze in his Olympic career, while Steph Curry has one gold. Kevin Durant stands out with four gold medals and is Team USA’s all-time leading scorer.
