HOFer coach demands Michael Jordan to endorse VP Kamala Harris citing Taylor Swift-like influence in North Carolina
Hall of Famer coach George Karl has been an ardent supporter of Vice President Kamala Harris and championed NBA legend Michael Jordan to endorse the presidential candidate ahead of the upcoming U.S. elections. On Friday, Karl shared his opinion in a post on X on how Jordan's endorsement is akin to pop star Taylor Swift's and could help boost Harris' stance in North Carolina.
"I want Michael to publicly endorse Kamala Harris. 💙 It’s Taylor Swift big and will send North Carolina over the top. Which will be key to winning the Election," Karl tweeted.
George Karl has often made his support for Kamala Harris public and also looked to spread awareness and support for the Harris campaign, organizing a "Hoops for Harris" Zoom call earlier this month. The call took place on Sept. 4 and featured various pro-Harris NBA figures.
Earlier this week, Karl pondered the possibility of former president Donald Trump's "ultimate legacy" in uniting America in support of Kamala Harris. In a post on X, Karl hypothesized Trump's "Make America Great Again" movement to be realized by Harris "in spite" of Trump.
"How cool would it be if Trump's ultimate legacy is he Made America Great Again, and more United than before, not because of him but in spite of him," Karl tweeted.
As suggested by George Karl, if Michael Jordan endorsed Kamala Harris for the presidential elections, it could go a long way in MJ's home state of North Carolina for the Democratic Party.
Why is Michael Jordan a North Carolina legend?
North Carolina has produced numerous sports stars over the years, but none with as much star power as Michael Jordan. Jordan's legendary NBA career has secured him an iconic status all around the world, even more so in the state where he grew up.
Jordan first secured the hometown hero status when he hit the game-winning shot in the 1982 NCAA national championship game when the University of North Carolina defeated Georgetown by one point. Since then, his NBA stardom elevated him to a much-loved personality in Tar Heel State.
The five-time NBA MVP has also uplifted the state with his philanthropic efforts, having made various sizeable donations over the years.
Last year, Wilmington County Manager Chris Coudriet announced that a museum dedicated to Jordan is in the works. The move goes on to recognize the reverence that the basketball icon holds in his home state.
