How many times has LeBron James been eliminated in first round of NBA Playoffs?

LeBron James, throughout his illustrious career, has only suffered two first-round playoff exits. The first occurred in the 2020-21 season, when the LA Lakers were eliminated in six games by the Phoenix Suns, marking the beginning of a new rivalry between the two teams. The second came in the 2023-24 playoffs, where the Nuggets defeated them in five games.

Considering that the two franchises have had bad blood for several years, the Suns had the last laugh in the 2020-21 playoffs.

Initially, the Lakers faced a setback by losing Game 1. Yet, they swiftly bounced back, displaying dominance by winning two consecutive games. Unfortunately, their star player, Anthony Davis, suffered an injury that sidelined him for the remainder of the series.

Without Davis, the Lakers lacked a significant presence in the paint for defense and scoring, and the Suns took full advantage, securing three consecutive victories with relative ease.

However, in terms of James' overall legacy, this happens to be the only first-round playoff loss of his career. Having been to 16 playoffs over the course of his 20-year career, LeBron has truly enjoyed a lot of success in the postseason.

Having been to the NBA Finals nine times in 10 years, James emerged victorious in four. With 4 NBA Finals MVP's to his name as well, the "King" has been one of the greatest performers in the NBA playoffs.

Nuggets send Lakers crashing out of the NBA playoffs

Despite leading at halftime in every game of the series, the Los Angeles Lakers were ultimately crashed out from the playoffs by the defending champion Denver Nuggets in Game 5.

While the final score of 108-106 suggests a close contest, the series was a nail-biter throughout. LeBron James, who in his 21st year in the league, recorded a triple-double of 30 points, 11 assists, and 9 rebounds, showcasing his all-around dominance. However, even his herculean performance couldn't overcome the brilliance of the Nuggets, particularly Jamal Murray's clutch mid-range jumper that sealed the Lakers' fate.

This defeat marks only the second first-round playoff exit in LeBron's illustrious career, leaving many to wonder what the future holds for him and the Laker. LeBron James' 71 games played in the 2023-24 season were his highest as a Laker. The NBA superstar holds the key to the Lakers' future. By June 29th, he must decide on his final contract year, potentially extending his Lakers career into a 22nd season at 40. While he expressed contentment in February, his long-term commitment remains shrouded in uncertainty.
