“I haven’t seen it…did he say something crazy?”- Steph Curry reveals he hasn’t watched Draymond Green’s documentary which addressed his punch at Jordan Poole
The Golden State Warriors have been looking to move past the infamous practice altercation between teammates Draymond Green and Jordan Poole.
Both Poole and Green have already publicly addressed the incident and highlighted that they are focused on winning another championship. The Warriors also didn’t show any signs of being affected by the altercation during their impressive 123-109 opening night win over the LA Lakers.
However, the team, including Warriors superstar guard Stephen Curry, still hasn’t been able to fully move on from discussing the incident. This is in large part due to a newly-released preseason documentary from none other than Draymond Green himself.
Green’s documentary which has been generating news headlines, is a self-produced mini-documentary on TNT. He released it shortly before the Warriors' season opener on Tuesday, which quickly resparked conversations about his infamous punch. In it, Green spoke to TNT about what it was like to have one of the worst moments of his career go viral on social media.
When Stephen Curry was recently asked about his thoughts on the documentary, he hadn’t seen it yet. But Curry's initial instinct was to question whether Green had said anything controversial.
“Did he say something crazy?” Curry asked.
Reporters then assured Curry that Green did not say anything too outlandish in the documentary. It was more just the fact that it was released in general that had garnered reporters’ interest.
Curry later explained that he can’t really give an opinion on a documentary that he hasn’t seen. However, he’s hoping that Green kept the team’s best interests in mind during production.
“I haven’t watched it so I can’t really get you an answer. He’s been in production, the new media stuff, I’m sure that’s not going to end. But hopefully, everything is in light of trying to protect the team and make it about what we’re trying to do on the floor as the priority,” Curry said.
Why did Draymond Green even release the documentary?
Many have asked why Draymond Green would even release a controversial documentary at the start of the season. That question has since been answered by Green at a TechCrunch Disrupt tech conference in San Francisco.
During the conference, Green spoke about his decision to discuss the infamous punch in his documentary. Green explained that the documentary was meant to give a full behind-the-scenes look at his preseason journey. It just so happened that his pre-season got derailed in the process of filming.
“It was my journey through the preseason. Unfortunately, preseason went a little different than most preseasons,” Green said.
Green then spoke about how he had to address the elephant in the room in order for the documentary to be authentic.
“In doing that, when I look at a project like that and it’s my journey through the preseason, you have to be willing to address those things although they’re not the best things, although it’s something I’m not proud of at all. Who wants to watch that if you’re not going to address the elephant in the room?
“So I thought it was very important to address it and acknowledge it in a way of owning up to my mistakes and yet being apologetic but also understanding we have a season to prepare for. We’re all moving forward together to go and try to defend our championship,” Green said.
Now that Draymond Green’s tell-all behind-the-scenes documentary has been released, hopefully, the Warriors will be able to move past the incident for good this time.
