"I just don't like them" - D.C. boy Kevin Durant opens up on why one NFL team tops his hate list

NBA star Kevin Durant may have bounced around the league but the 35-year-old has not forgotten where he came from. The former MVP was born in Washington D.C. and attended high schools around the city in Maryland and Virginia. Like many boys in the area, he grew up a fan of the Washington Commanders, one of the NFL's oldest franchises, and remains loyal to his hometown team.

The NFL season officially kicked off on Thursday night and the buzz of football season is in the air. During a recent interview with well-known sports personality Kay Adams, Durant spoke about his love for Washington football, and the one team he can't stand. Asked if he could hypothetically get rid of one NFL team the Phoenix Suns star responded with the following:

"Cowboys, easy."

Kevin Durant went on to justify his dislike and discussed the longstanding rivalry between Washington and the Dallas Cowboys that dates back over six decades.

"I just don't like em...The Cowboys are that one team I just don't like. I think it's because a lot of people where I'm from in D.C. have become Cowboys fans. ... I just hate that they dont stay loyal," added Durant.

The Cowboys won three Super Bowls between 1992-1995 and Durant would have been a young boy in D.C. during that golden era for Dallas. Despite Washington not winning a Super Bowl since 1991, Durant has stayed loyal.

There are some positives to look forward to for Durant and the Washington Commanders' fanbase. The organization selected one of the game's most exciting and dynamic quarterback prospects in Jayden Daniels in the 2024 NFL draft.

The D.C. native joked that anyone who flipped their allegiance to the Cowboys would not be welcomed back after Daniels guided the franchise back to their previous highs.

"They going to have to stay on that side. We not letting them on the bus," stated Durant.
