"I kinda have the idea that in October he'll still [show up]" - Steph Curry still coming to terms with Klay Thompson's Warriors exit

Steph Curry's latest comments suggest that he and the Golden State Warriors are still coming to terms with Klay Thompson's departure from his longtime franchise. Curry's 'Splash Brother' was one of the major names to find a new home this season as the 4x NBA champion signed a three-year, $50 million deal with the Dallas Mavericks.

Speaking to the media after Team USA's practice, Curry believed that it was still yet to sink in that Thompson wouldn't be in the Warriors locker room anymore.

"Not having Klay, man, it still really hasn't sunk in. Been doing it for 13 years together and I kinda have the idea that in October he'll still [show up]."

Upon official confirmation that Thompson was traded to the Mavs, Curry posted a heartfelt tribute on social media. Both superstars played 13 seasons together for Golden State and won four championships along with the third big superstar in Draymond Green. Now, he will have to watch as Thompson plays the Warriors β€” this time alongside new mates Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.

"Always wanted to ride out in the sunset with those two guys": Steph Curry wanted to end decorated career alongside Klay Thompson and Draymond Green

In addition to saying he was yet to process Klay Thompson's departure, Steph Curry also added that he wanted to end his illustrious career alongside the Warriors 'Big 3'.

β€œI always wanted to ride out into the sunset with those two guys and have an opportunity to stay relevant from a winning perspective. β€œIt sucks. It's one of those that's hard to kind of process just because I never imagined that this would be kind of the reality.”

It's worth noting that Thompson had requested Curry not to lobby for him and get a deal that would have kept the LA native in the Bay Area. Now, his move further pegs the Mavs as legitimate title contenders after they made the NBA Finals this past season.

Thompson comes in with years of seasoned experience, the clutch gene, and more importantly championship DNA that makes him a valuable addition to Dallas who looked primed for another deeper run.

It will be a rather emotional day for both parties when they play against each other, whether it's in Dallas or at the Chase Center. As for Steph Curry, it will surely be a strange feeling to play against his former teammate.
