"I love seeing historical moments" - Magic Johnson stoked to see LeBron James-Bronny duo creating father-son milestones on Lakers
Magic Johnson has lived through all of LeBron James’ historical accomplishments in basketball. “King James” has more of those moments waiting for him as he plays the 2024-25 season with his eldest son, Bronny James. The Jameses are set to become the first father-son tandem to play in the same season in the NBA.
The elder James has long insisted that playing with James Jr. was the biggest goal he wanted to achieve before retiring. The Lakers helped him by grabbing the former USC guard with the No. 55 pick in this year’s draft. History beckons the two when the new season starts.
LA’s media day had more buzz than usual because of LeBron James’ photos with Bronny James. It didn’t take long for their pictures to become viral on social media. Magic Johnson commented on a post on X, formerly Twitter, showing the Jameses:
“What a great and awesome moment for LeBron and Bronny, becoming the first father-son duo to play in the league! As a former Laker, I love seeing historical moments happening in the purple and gold!”
Johnson played his legendary career in the NBA with the LA Lakers. Following his retirement in 1996, he continued to have an impact on the team, serving as coach and later as an executive. “Junior” was the president of basketball operations when he convinced James to join the Lakers in the summer of 2018.
Knowing his role in bringing the four-time MVP to Hollywood, every LeBron James historical milestone has to feel personal to Magic Johnson. When the Jameses eventually play together, it will be another feat that happened in the Lakers organization with Johnson’s help.
Lakers are highlighting the history LeBron James and his son Bronny James are going to accomplish
LeBron James has been oozing with excitement in his talks with reporters during the LA Lakers’ media day. James looks invigorated despite a long summer playing in the Olympics because of Bronny James’ presence.
The Lakers’ social media department has been hyping up the history that will happen for the father-son tandem.
The Lakers posted a photo of the Jameses that said it all:
“The joy of making history.”
“King James” told the media that he has already accomplished everything in basketball. The statement isn’t entirely accurate as he has yet to appear in an NBA game with his son. James Jr. played in the Las Vegas Summer League but the four-time champ was in France leading Team USA to a gold medal finish.
LA has six preseason games on their schedule but the superstar might not play in any of them. The Lakers’ opening night encounter with the Minnesota Timberwolves will be a different story. James will start and might finally share the court with his son.
The Lakers put the limelight on LeBron James and Bronny James during media day. Expect the trend to continue as opening night draws near.
