“I’m listening to NBC, Amazon” - Charles Barkley drops bombshell on potentially leaving “Inside The NBA” on ESPN
For the past 24 years, Charles Barkley has been part of the award-winning show "Inside The NBA." As the program gets ready to change networks, the Hall of Fame forward dropped some big news regarding his future.
With TNT no longer being part of the NBA's media rights deal, many thought it was going to be the end of the beloved program. However, that changed earlier this year when the show was acquired by ESPN.
During a recent appearance on "The Dan Patrick Show," Charles Barkley was asked about Inside The NBA making its way to ESPN. He cited that he isn't fully committed to the move and has been listening to offers from other networks.
"I'm listening to NBA and Amazon," Barkley said. "I want to know everything that's on the table for me before I sign in."
"I love those guys at ESPN and if we end up there, I'm gonna do the best I possibly can."
Since retiring as a player, Charles Barkley has had an extremely successful run as a broadcaster. He is a fan favorite on Inside the NBA with his comedic personality and constant bickering with co-host Shaquille O'Neal.
Barkley made it clear that he has far from made a final decision in regards to his future. He is merely doing his due diligence speaking with other networks to see what opportunities are out there.
Charles Barkley to have speical role in new All-Star game format
While he might be looking ahead to the future behind the scenes, Charles Barkley continues to be a key part of Inside The NBA this season. Recently, it was announced that the former Phoenix Suns star is going to have a special role in the upcoming All-Star Game.
In an effort to add more entertainment value to the All-Star game, the NBA has decided to change things up this year. Instead of just one game, there is going to be a mini-tournament involving the league's top stars. There are going to be three All-Star teams consisting of eight players, followed by the winner of the Rising Stars Challenge.
The NBA has shifted to a more backyard style of making All-Star teams, assigning captains and letting them pick their teams. However, that is going to change this year as well. Charles Barkley, Shaquille O'Neal and Kenny Smith have been named honorary GMs of the All-Star team. WNBA legend Candace Parker will also be the honorary GM for the Rising Stars winner in the mini-tournament.
Shaq, Charles and Kenny are slated to draft their All-Star squads in a special episode of Inside The NBA on February 6th.
