Four-time NBA champion Andre Iguodala recently weighed in on Draymond Green's contract situation with the Golden State Warriors. Iguodala advocated for Green to be paid whatever he wanted, and also shed a little light on what teams take into account while offering a new contract.

Green reportedly wants a maximum-contract extension, but the Warriors' financial situation might prevent them from offering the forward a lucrative new deal.

On "Point Forward," Iguodala questioned whether teams paid players based on what they had achieved, or on what impact they could have in the future.

"Here's the question that keeps getting asked. You know people keep asking me and that's my guy so I'm always gonna say get him everything he wants. What I'm getting is, are you paying somebody for what they've done or what they're going to do.

"That's the tricky part because you can't keep saying 'I'm paying a guy because he's gonna be good; he's talented and we're paying him for the future.' And then at the other side, 'I can't pay for what he's already done.'"

Draymond Green's presence on defense has been invaluable for the Warriors ever since he entered the league. In the last decade, Green has been a top-10 defender in the regular season five times. He has accumulated seven All-Defensive selections.

"I’m definitely a top 10 player at the moment. Best defender on the reigning champions and the best defender in the league. You gotta credit my work. Without me [the team] ain’t working."

Green also plays the role of a facilitator. In other words, instead of scoring himself, he provides open looks and cutting lanes for other players on the team.

Green was in a good position to be named the Defensive Player of the Year last season, before a back injury thwarted his season. The Warriors posted a 19-17 record without him in the lineup, as compared to 34-12 with him.

But the question remains, is his skillset worth $164.5 million over five years?
