"I’m pretty sure I could do what you do, or better” – Theo Pinson fires back at Dillon Brooks for his ‘cheerleader’ comment

Over the course of this season, Dillon Brooks has become one of the NBA's biggest villains. His words and actions on the court have turned him into one of the most disliked players in the league today.

Many players have had run-ins with Brooks this year, and the latest is Theo Pinson of the Dallas Mavericks. During the Memphis Grizzlies' 112-108 win over the Mavs on Monday, Brooks was seen signaling at Pinson, calling him a cheerleader. He was given a technical foul that led to a one-game suspension.

Not long after the encounter, Pinson responded to Brooks' comments. He feels that if he had the same opportunities as Brooks, that he might be a better player overall.

“If I had the same opportunity, I’m pretty sure I could do what you do, or better,” Pinson said.

Pinson has been in the NBA since 2018, but hasn't gotten much opportunity in terms of playing time. Over the past five years, he's suited up for the Brooklyn Nets, New York Knicks and Dallas Mavericks. The 6-foot-5 guard has appeared in 37 games this season, averaging 1.7 points and 1.1 rebounds.

Dillon Brooks going out of his way to be NBA villain

Last season, the Memphis Grizzlies were one of the NBA's most liked teams, a young, up-and-coming team that played with swagger an energy. However, just a year later, the script has completely flipped.

Part of why so many people have turned on the Grizzlies is because of Dillon Brooks. He's gone out of his way to become the team's trash talker and "tough guy."

This in-your-face style of play has led to many altercations with players. Two that stand out include his feud with Draymond Green and Cleveland Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell. He was also recently fined for knocking over a camera operator.

Some players have carved out a role for themselves with this style, including veteran guard Patrick Beverley. However, it appears to be having a reverse effect for the Grizzlies forward.

With this new image, it was be interesting to see how things play out for Brooks. This is a big year for him as he will be an unrestricted free agent this summer. Seeing that he's made enemies around the league, it could impact the amount of offers he gets in the offseason.

Pinson is the latest target to get caught in Brooks' sights, and likely won't be the last. With the postseason right around the corner, he will surely continue to be an adgitator to give Memphis an edge.
