"I'm still inspiring" - Patrick Beverley reveals 76ers rookie's private texts seeking veteran's mentorship

Despite recently deciding to leave the NBA to play in Israel, Patrick Beverley still has plans to mentor the league's next generation. According to the veteran point guard, Philadelphia 76ers rookie guard Jared McCain has already reached out to him for guidance.

On Tuesday, Beverley announced his plans to sign with the Israeli Premier League's Hapoel Tel Aviv BC. Per Sportal, his deal is worth $4 million over the next two seasons.

The historic deal ends Beverley's 12-year NBA run, where he established himself as one of the league's most tenacious perimeter defenders and hustle players. He split this past season with Philadelphia and the Milwaukee Bucks, getting dealt to Milwaukee at the February trade deadline.

While Beverley is no longer a Sixer or even an NBA player, McCain, Philadelphia's No. 16 pick in this year's NBA draft, still desires the veteran's advice. On Wednesday's episode of "The Pat Bev Podcast with Rone," Beverley shared McCain's recent text message.

"McCain sent me a DM. He's a real one," Patrick Beverley said. "[He said], 'Just wanted to reach out and ask for some advice into the NBA. I have some questions about everything, to be honest, and just want to learn as much as possible before I step on the court. I'll take anything.
"'What's some tips for succeeding as a rookie? How do I get on the floor? How do I get through slumps? Easy, Brodie, easy. Send me your number.'"

Beverley added that he plans to give McCain in-depth answers to all his questions.

"I ain't even on Philly no more. Man, I'm talking about I'm still inspiring," Beverley said. "I'mma have the whole layout for him."

While Beverley is widely viewed as a defensive-oriented guard, McCain is considered more of a score-first guard. He has garnered comparisons to players like Toronto Raptors point guard Immanuel Quickley.

Nevertheless, perhaps Beverley will be able to give McCain an inside scoop on the mentality and intangibles it takes to succeed in the NBA.

Jared McCain reaches out to Patrick Beverley amid NBA Summer League struggles

Given the timing of Patrick Beverley's latest podcast, Jared McCain seemingly reached out to him amid his offensive struggles during this year's NBA Summer Leagues.

McCain has played six games across the Salt Lake City and NBA 2K25 Summer Leagues. He has struggled with his shot, averaging 12.0 points on 27.5% shooting and 22.5% shooting from 3. In contrast, McCain averaged 14.3 ppg, shooting 46.2% and 41.4% from deep over 36 games during his freshman season at Duke.

However, it's still early, and based on his conversation with Beverley, McCain appears determined to improve, which should be a positive sign for Sixers fans.
