“I think KD is smart enough to know 'I probably shouldn't have left Golden State, I'm trapped in this lease for 4 years, how do I get out?'" - Colin Cowherd says Kevin Durant knows that his move to the Nets was a mistake
Kevin Durant could be stuck with the Brooklyn Nets for another season as no franchise is keen on the idea of securing his signature. His preferred team, the Phoenix Suns, are not really in the picture after their offer was deemed inadequate by the Nets.
Durant's run with the Nets has been unsuccessful, to say the least. The super team that was formed after his arrival has been dismantled, with James Harden joining the Philadelphia 76ers.
Kyrie Irving's partnership with KD did not bear fruit in the 2022 playoffs as they were swept in the first round by the Boston Celtics.
NBA analyst Colin Cowherd believes the forward is trapped in a bad situation and can't find his way out.
He is of the opinion that the 12-time All-Star is smart enough to know his move to the Nets was a mistake and that he should never have left Golden State.
"I think KD is smart enough to know 'I probably shouldn't have left Golden State. I'm trapped in this lease for four years, how do I get out of this apartment?' I think it's as simple as that. He knows he made a mistake, he's too smart to know.
"Nash isn't Kerr as a coach, they don't have the depth, they don't have the owner, they don't have the culture. We all do this, we leave a relationship and look back and see that the grass isn't greener."
Kevin Durant's trade window is closing
Kevin Durant trade rumors have slowly begun to dissipate. The Nets are only willing to let go of the forward if they get a good enough offer. They have been vocal about wanting an All-Star, as well as several draft picks, in exchange for KD.
The Phoenix Suns offered Deandre Ayton, but the center does not fit the Nets' basic requirements and as such, the offer was rejected.
Whether or not the Suns will make a better offer remains to be seen. It's clear that the franchise is not willing to lose its top players in Chris Paul and Devin Booker, meaning the Nets will have to shift their focus to other teams to pull of a trade.
