"I really found my niche" - Julius Randle fondly reminisces time spent in New York in farewell to favorite F&B spots

After being traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves, Julius Randle left New York with plenty of good memories. The forward developed relationships with several spots across the city, especially food and beverage establishments.

In an interview with Thrillist published on Wednesday, the former Knicks player spoke about his favorite places to eat and drink in NYC. Randle said he and his family established different relationships while embracing the culture of the city.

"It’s been amazing living in the city for the past five years," Randle said. "Just really embracing the culture of New York and how things are done here and all the different kinds of food.
"Being in New York, I really found my niche. I found my little go-to spots within the city, where I like to eat and where I like to shop. My kids established so many different relationships. It was a lot of fun."

Julius Randle said that after growing up in Texas, he was a fan of Mexican cuisine and wanted to see what New York has to offer. He said that Taqueria Al Paster serves excellent meals. In terms of fashion, he recommended Brooklyn Circus, a local store with "no shortage of options for good shopping."

He mentioned Black Gold Records, a store with coffee, muffins and croissants (which attracts Randle). Sarabeth's, a restaurant, also made the mini-list for the three-time NBA All-Star. Common Table was another option he mentioned to grab a cup of coffee, latte or tea.

Last but not least, Julius Randle said his son's school was near Central Park, where they spent a lot of time playing football or having some ice cream.

Julius Randle revealed initial reaction to Timberwolves trade

After spending five years in New York, Julius Randle was included in a blockbuster trade that sent him to a Western Conference contender. He was shocked at the beginning but then started to feel excited about the new chapter in his career.

"Initially, it's always going to be a shock but for me afterwards, I woke up the next morning, and I was just really, really excited," Randle told reporters.
"It was a breath of fresh air. I'm excited to bring everything that I learned here over the past five years and, help these guys out. ... I want to help win a championship. So that's the only thing that matters."

The Timberwolves made it to the Western Conference finals last season and they hope that the additions of Randle and Donte DiVincenzo can put them closer to a championship.
