"I sacrificed my suicide"- Wanda Durant recounts 'scary' time after Kevin Durant's birth
During his rise to superstardom in the NBA, Kevin Durant has always shared the spotlight with his mother. Recently, Wanda Durant opened up about how much her life changed when she gave birth to the future MVP.
Last month, a new TV show called "Raising Fame" debuted. It is hosted by Steph Curry and Shaquille O'Neal's mothers, and they dive into stories of the early lives of famous people in sports and entertainment.
On this week's episode, Kevin Durant's mother appeared as a guest. Wanda got very in-depth about how giving birth to Kevin helped her deal with some inner battles she was going through.
"I knew there would be no one on this Earth that could take care of my sons the way that I did," Wanda Durant said. "People say well what did you sacrifice? And to be quite honest, I sacrificed my suicide."
It's clear that Wanda has always been passionate about being a mother, and her relationship with the Phoenix Suns star is a testament to that. Many still remember all the heartfelt words Kevin said about his mother in his MVP speech in 2014. Kevin touched on all the sacrifices he made for her to get where he is and stated that she is the real MVP.
Wanda Durant speaks on the joy she finds in Kevin Durant's NBA career
This summer, Kevin Durant was one of the many NBA stars to travel to Paris and compete in the 2024 Olympics. While he pursued his fourth gold medal, he brought his mother with him to take in the whole experience up close.
During her time in France, Wanda Durant sat down with NBA insider Marc Spears and Ari Chambers to discuss an array of topics. Among the things brought up were the things she'd enjoyed most during her son's legendary run in the league. One main thing that Wanda finds joy in is seeing how fans adore and look up to KD.
"The things I smile about or make me most happy is when I see my son happy in his accomplishments," Wanda Durant said. "When I see how little children are inspired by him and they kind of clamor to get his autograph and get a picture with him. That makes me smile."
Kevin Durant has a lot to be happy about this summer, as he continued to solidify himself as one of the best players in Team USA history. For starters, he now has a fourth gold medal on his résumé. On top of that, he climbed to the top of the history books in two big ways.
During these Olympics, Durant became the all-time leading rebounder in Team USA history. However, his biggest accomplishment was passing Lisa Leslie as the all-time leading scorer between men and women.
