"I was shocked" - Dennis Schroder opens up on joining Warriors & playing alongside Steph Curry & Draymond Green
The Golden State Warriors started off the trading season by acquiring Dennis Schroder from the Brooklyn Nets. To get the veteran guard and a 2025 second-round pick from Miami, the Dubs sent De’Anthony Melton, Reece Beekman and three second-round picks to Brooklyn.
The Warriors hope Schroder can boost a team that has struggled in Steph Curry-less combinations.
On Tuesday, Schroder appeared to the media for the first time as a member of the Bay Area team. He had this to say when asked about his initial reaction to the trade:
“When it [trade] got announced and my agent called me, I was shocked. I liked the situation in Brooklyn. We just got settled in the house, shipped everything over, unpacked everything then we got the call. At the end of the day, me and my family, we’re happy now. We just got to move them over hopefully before Christmas.”
Dennis Schroder was inevitably asked about becoming teammates with Steph Curry and Draymond Green. The former Nets point guard had this to say about playing with the two-time MVP:
"When you go on the NBA app and see Golden State plays, you get excited because of how he plays. He plays like a video game. He's just having fun, laughing, making the right reads every single time. He's one of the superstars who I've got a lot of respect for. … I'm really excited. I can't say it enough. To be here, to be a part of something special."
Schroder continued about playing with Green:
“I always tried to impact the game on both ends. You can’t control if the ball goes in but I can always rely on my effort every single night, on my energy, the leadership I bring, so that’s the reason why I’m really, really excited playing with Draymond. … We got a pretty good relationship. Really looking forward to playing with another Hall of Famer.”
Dennis Schroder will have his first practice with Steph Curry, Draymond Green and the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday. He will debut for his new team the following day against the Memphis Grizzlies.
Steve Kerr "thrilled" to have Dennis Schroder aboard
On Sunday, Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr shared his excitement about acquiring Schroder.
“I’m thrilled,” Kerr said. “I told Dennis today that he’s kicked my a— on three different continents… Watching him in FIBA that last two summers… He’s a gamer. He’s a competitor. Pick and roll player. Two-way player.”
Warriors coach Steve Kerr has also said that the point guard would play the non-Steph Curry minutes.
The German averaged 18.4 points, 6.6 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 1.1 steals in 23 games for the Nets.
