"I should've stood on the bench" - Lamar Jackson humorously regrets being dwarfed by Victor Wembanyama in Paris

NFL star Lamar Jackson hilariously shared a photo of himself and San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama. Even after his first season, Wemby still gets much attention because of his height. At 7 ft. 4, he stands out among any crowd and anyone who stands next to him would feel small.

Wemby wrapped his rookie season with the Spurs by winning the NBA Rookie of the Year. He was stellar for most of his 2023-24 campaign, averaging 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 3.9 assists. The French center also dominated in the defensive end, leading the league in blocks with 3.6. But people still can't get over his height.

The star quarterback for the Baltimore Ravens had a chance to meet Wemby at an event. He took the chance to take a snapshot with the Spurs rookie and be in awe of his height. Jackson posted the photo on his Instagram story with a humorous caption.

"Ya I should've stood on the bench," Jackson posted.

Jackson is 6 ft. 2, which is comparable to a guard in the league. The difference in their height is obvious as only a few could come close to Wemby's height.

Victor Wembanyama adding more weapons to his arsenal

Any player with the height of Victor Wembanyama usually plays similarly to how big men play. However, Wemby is a different breed. Even with his height, he can handle the rock like a guard and shoot jumpers like a wing player. All these qualities have made it difficult for opponents to guard him.

What's even scarier is that he's interested in adding more weapons to his arsenal. Wemby recently posted on social media a photo of himself in the gym with three-time Sixth Man of the Year, Jamal Crawford.

The former NBA star is known to have one of the best ballhandling skills. He even pioneered the now-famous move, shake and bake.

With Wemby's quest to make improvements in his game, other players should take notice. The star rookie is getting ready for a dominant sophomore season for the Spurs.

Former All-Star reflects on Wemby's rookie season

There has been a lot of praise directed at Victor Wembanyama for what he's done in his first season. There are a few experts who believe that Wemby had the greatest rookie season of all time. However, seven-time All-Star, Tracy McGrady, doesn't agree with that take.

"The greatest rookie of all time?" McGrady said of Wembanyama. "Not to sh*t on Victor at all and what he's accomplished his rookie year, but they only won 22 games."
"That kid has skills but I don't have information to say he had the greatest rookie season of all time. He had a pretty good one but Vince Carter, Jason Kidd, Shaquille O'Neal, Allen Iverson, they had some pretty good ones as well." McGrady added.

The Spurs finished as the second-worst team in the league this season, with a 22-60 record. But there's hope that the front office will make moves to give Wemby more help.
