"I've no desire to be a senator" - Stephen A. Smith gets candid on ambitions for U.S. Presidential candidacy
While Stephen A. Smith may be best known for his hot takes on ESPN, he has been pretty vocal about the 2024 US Presidential Election. This week, Smith appeared on "The View," a daytime talk show with five female hosts, where he talked about the election and the possibility of a future in politics.
One of the hosts Sunny Hostin said that if Donald Trump can become President without any political experience, then the bar is set pretty low for anyone to try and step into the political arena.
When asked if he was interested in getting involved in politics, Stephen A. Smith gave a somewhst conflicting answer. First, he said that he isn't interested in running for President, or holding a seat in the Senate or the House of Representatives.
Despite that, he did say that if he had a shot to become the President, he would consider running.
"I have said this on many occasions. The answer would be, hell no. Because I like my life. I'm living a pretty good life. But I must confess, I do. I wish I could debate some of these guys. I'd love to be on a debate stage going up against these guys.
"I have no desire to be a Congressional figure or a Senator, but if you came to me and you told me I had a legitimate shot to win the Presidency of the United States of America, I would definitely consider it."
"I don't like either side" - Stephen A. Smith explains that if he were to get involved in politics he would be an Independent
As Stephen A. Smith and one of The View co-hosts, Whoopi Goldberg, discussed on Wednesday, the goal of the President should be to do what's in the best interest of the American people.
As Goldberg pointed out, oftentimes that is, in fact, the goal of those who run, however, once they get into office, things change. She and Stephen A. Smith then agreed on the fact that money from campaign donors and companies plays a role in a President's ability to keep campaign promises.
As he explained, instead of aligning himself with either the Democratic Party or the Republican Party, Stephen A. Smith would be an Independent.
"I would be independent because I don't like either side. And I'm not going to be bought and paid for. I'm going to do what I believe is in the best interest of the American people whatever that may be, and I'm going to make my decisions and I'm going to stand on it."
While Stephen A. Smith had a lot of thoughts on the 2024 US Election, it sounds like he isn't planning a move to politics.
