"I wasted that one" - Dennis Schroder speaks about his biggest regret as he aims to medal in Paris 2024
Dennis Schroder led the German men's basketball team to the final of the 2023 FIBA World Cup, where they were crowned the World Champions. Now, the Brooklyn Nets star has once again donned his national jersey in hopes of winning the gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
While talking to Basket News, the German international revealed one thing that he regrets and would want to change in his career.
"For sure. I wasted that one. If I could take one thing back, it probably would've been to play in the Olympics," Schroder said.
The Brooklyn Nets star is competing in the Olympics for the first time. He was eligible to compete in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics but was a restricted free agent at the time. A disagreement regarding insurance between the LA Lakers and the German Basketball Federation did not allow him to compete.
Schroder also talked about his plans for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
"I'm here, and I'm going to take it day by day and take as many wins as possible to get to the ultimate goal."
Dennis Schroder and Germany will be going up against Brazil on July 31 in their next group-stage matchup in the tournament.
Dennis Schroder calls the flag bearer role "the biggest honor"
Dennis Schroder was the flag bearer for Germany in the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympics. The Brooklyn Nets star said it was the biggest honor his nation could give him.
"I did not really sink it in yet. I think that is the biggest honor Germany could give me, and I am really grateful for that. I am grateful for all my teammates who came, all the fans who were there," Schroder said (via eurohoops).
Schroder expressed his feelings on being the flag bearer for his nation and said that it was a moment he had dreamt of as a kid. He also thanked the authorities for the great arrangements made for the event.
Dennis Schroder is coming off a good season in the NBA where he averaged 14.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 6.1 assists per game. He has managed to carry over his great form into the Olympics and will be hoping to lead Germany all the way.
In his latest game against Japan, Schroder scored a double-double, scoring 13 points, collecting two rebounds and providing an impressive 12 assists to secure a 97-77 win.
