“If I'm Kevin Durant, I know I'm already one of the damn greatest" – Jay Williams rides with 2x NBA champion's comment on legacy

Earlier this week, Kevin Durant did a sit-down interview with Shams Charania of The Athletic. In the tell-all, he mentioned that leaving a lasting legacy in the NBA isn't a major priority.

This might have rubbed some the wrong way, but one analyst came to his defense. He feels Kevin Durant shouldn't worry about it because he is already an all-time great.

During a recent appearance on ESPN's "Get Up," Jay Williams gave his thoughts on why Durant shouldn't be worried about his legacy at this point in his career:

"Regardless of whether people said [going to the Warriors] was the weakest move in the history of sports, who gives a damn about what other people think? ... If I'm Durant, I know I'm already one of the damn greatest."

Should Kevin Durant still be worried about his legacy?

Jay Williams is spot on in his assessment of Kevin Durant. As his career begins to wind down, his legacy isn't something that he should be worried about. While some might not be fans of his decision to join the Golden State Warriors, there is no denying the caliber of player he is.

His time with the Brooklyn Nets might be a blemish on his career, but KD has done just about everything a player can do. In his 16 years in the NBA, Durant is a 13-time All-Star, four-time scoring champion, one-time MVP, two-time champion and two-time Finals MVP.

Even without the accolades, Durant cemented his legacy on skill alone. There has never been a player in history with his size at skills. He is a near seven-footer with the ballhandling skills of a guard who can score from anywhere on the floor.

Whether he cared about it or not, Durant does not have any control over his legacy. How fans and media view his career is entirely up to him.

When he finally decides to hang up, there is no denying that KD is a generational talent. His accomplishments speak for themself, and is going to go down as arguably the greatest scorer in league history.

Looking ahead, KD still has a chance to add to his legacy. After recently returning from injury, the All-Star forward is ready to help lead the Phoenix Suns to a championship. Alongside Devin Booker, Chris Paul and Deandre Ayton, they are one of favorites to come out of the Western Conference.
