"If trying to stay relevant was a person"- Knicks fans lambast Reggie Miller for calling them 'frontrunners'
Several NBA fans have ridiculed Reggie Miller for his latest take on the viral incident that occurred during Game 5 of the Eastern Conference semifinals. With the New York Knicks up against the Indiana Pacers, Miller became an obvious target due to his time with the Pacers, and his past comments.
With the series tied 2-2, it had moved to the MSG Arena, where Knicks supporters decided to let their feelings show for Miller. With chants of ‘FU Reggie Miller’ being clearly heard, Josh Hart had walked over to the TNT analyst in order to let him know what the crowd thought of him, in mere jest.
However, Miller saw the situation quite differently, claiming that even if Hart did not mean it, it worked as pouring ‘gasoline over the situation’:
This is why I can't stand the Knicks…They're frontrunners. They think they're god's gift to basketball…Where gasoline was poured on it was when Josh Hart came over to me…Think he was trying to be funny…'FU'…He shouldn't have come over & said that…"
Regardless, Knicks fans seem to have once again ganged up on Miller, this time on Twitter, as a range of reactions poured in:
“If trying to stay relevant was a person.”
Supporters found a variety of responses in a bid to put the Pacers legend in his place:
“the biggest moment in ur career was losing a series to the knicks.”
“So funny because Reggie is the epitome of a front runner and made a legacy off of the Knicks name.”
“Pacers were frontrunners all playoffs was real quiet when them celtics cameback.”
Some thought that his latest comments represented a U-turn:
“Ironic coming from the guy who made the whole series about himself on the broadcast. You gassed yourself up more than u did the actual pacers that series”
“Reggie said he owned the Knicks with a career record of 26-41 against them lmao.”
As is evident, Indiana Pacers supporters did not leave any stone unturned and had their say on the latest situation as well.
Reggie Miller was not happy with Josh Hart’s action during Game Five
While Miller accepted the fact that Hart was merely trying to be funny, he went on to claim that the Knicks star should not have walked over to him.
"He [Hart] shouldn't have came over and said that in the first place,"
Of course, the situation itself had initially kicked off due to his own comments about calling Game Five:
"No. I've owned this city. I've owned this building"
At the same time, Miller went 26-41 in his career against the Knicks. Furthermore, during the 1994 Eastern Conference Finals between the two teams, Miller was guilty of showing a choke sign during Game Five. While Miller in particular was impressive in the game and scored 25 points in the fourth quarter, finishing with 39 on the night.
However, the Pacers ended up losing the series, as Charles Oakley and Patrick Ewing led them to a 4-3 victory. Hence, while things ended well the latest time the two teams met, Miller might not have the best record against the team he claimed he owned during his career.
