"In Kyrie we trust": Mavs hype up Kyrie Irving with electric highlight video as NBA offseason chugs on
Kyrie Irving's highlights from his season-and-a-half with the Dallas Mavericks did the rounds on social media earlier. The team's social media handle took to X (formerly Twitter) to share an electric mixtape of the guard, much to fans' delight. The buzz around the side as potential title contenders elevated ever since they signed 4x NBA champion Klay Thompson to a three-year, $50 million deal.
At just over a minute of runtime, the video includes montages from Irving's arrival in Dallas to some of his best plays with the team. The handle had a simple caption to the clip;
"In Kyrie we trust"
Irving was the perfect partner for franchise superstar Luka Doncic this past season as the duo made the NBA Finals. They went down 4-1 to the Boston Celtics, but the team will take it as a positive after failing to make the playoffs the season before. The mercurial guard averaged 25.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 5.3 assists on 41/49/41 shooting splits from 58 regular season games.
Klay Thompson says Kyrie Irving "inspired" him to make the move to Mavericks
Speaking to The Athletic's Tim Cato, Klay Thompson revealed that a conversation with Kyrie Irving over text helped him decide to head to Dallas.
"(Kyrie) actually was one of the first people to text me just how grateful he (is) to be here and how the city's embraced him, the organization embraced him. For him to come here and embrace the city and embrace the role, he has just inspired me."
Thompson and Irving faced off in the NBA Finals twice when the latter was with LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers. He and the former Golden State Warriors F/G also shared the locker room when they suited up for Team USA and won the gold at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
It's worth noting that Kyrie Irving's time with the Mavericks has helped reshape his image. He had a rather tumultuous 2022 in Brooklyn, and the move to Dallas saw him play with renewed focus and energy. While there was an adjustment period with Doncic, the pair combined to form a lethal offensive backcourt for the Mavs the past season.
With Thompson's championship DNA and experience, the Mavs will be one of the more red-hot teams to watch out for. Only time will tell if Kyrie Irving can win his second title for himself and Dallas this upcoming season.
