Paul George new jersey number is inspired by Kobe Bryant
Paul George will not wear number 13 when he plays the Philadelphia 76ers next season. After signing a four-year max deal with the Sixers, PG decided to wear No. 8 with his new team and it was his idol Kobe Bryant who was the real inspiration behind it.
Bryant who was born in Philadelphia was draftedpoint by the LA Lakers and donned No. 8 jersey in the initial years of his career before he switched to 24.
"I had to do it. C'mon man, I'm in Philly." George said on his podcast. "My way of idolizing Kobe.”
The former Clippers star also said that one of the reasons that he didn't wear 13 in Philly was because his son couldn't spell 13, so, instead he spells 14. However, PG didn't feel like 14 suited him.
"It's good to have those moments to just, like, when you look at that jersey ... 'Yeah, this is who I'm putting it on for.
Paul George wore 24 in Indiana when Bryant also wore 24 with the Lakers. Wearing the same jersey number as one of Kobe’s seems most fitting for the All-star player.
