NBA Insider reveals Scottie Barnes intends to sign max extension with the Raptors

With OG Anunoby gone, most of the responsibility for the success of the Toronto Raptors falls on Scottie Barnes. With more responsibility, Barnes is even more excited to stay with the Raptors and grow as a leader.

According to NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski, Scottie Barnes intends to sign up with the Raptors and continue his career with the team. Barnes is eligible for a five-year, $270 million rookie extension with the Raptors, which could make him one of the highest-paid players in the league and the highest-paid player in Raptors franchise history.

Given how much Barnes can impact the game on both ends of the floor, the Raptors putting their bet on the young star makes even more sense. Since getting drafted in the 2021 NBA Draft, Barnes has fared on both ends of the floor.

In his rookie season, Barnes averaged 15.3 points per game on 49.2% shooting from the field. The 2021-22 Rookie of the Year also averaged 1.1 steals and 0.7 blocks per game.

Barnes quickly rose to prominence in his third year with the Raptors. In the 2023–24 season, he averaged 19.9 points per game, shooting 47.5% from the field and 34.1% from the three-point line.

Last season, Barnes fared well on the defensive end of the floor, averaging 8.2 rebounds, 1.3 steals and 1.5 blocks per game.

One of the biggest areas of his improvement has been his ability to distribute the ball. In his last season with the Raptors, Scottie Barnes averaged 6.0 assists per game and made his first All-Star selection.
